Signal Films offers a variety of training and opportunities for filmmakers and artists.
We run a rolling programme of short courses in all aspects of filmmaking and digital and moving image art production aimed at both beginner and intermediate levels, including screenwriting; production; direction; camera lighting; sound recording mixing; editing; marketing distribution; digital photography image manipulation; graphic web design.
Due to the strong support afforded by a range of funders we are able to offer all of our opportunities at either heavily subsidized rates or for free to residents of Cumbria.
Signal Films also offers a range of innovative outreach and educational projects to encourage participants to deepen their understanding and enjoyment of film, photography and media arts. Our projects provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to gain new skills and explore their creativity by making films and artworks with the support of experienced practitioners.

FREE Digital Art Photography Workshops Autumn 2010
Signal Films are pleased to announce that
professional digital art photographer Jenny Wicks
(www.jennywicksphotography.co.uk)
will be resident in Barrow during September and October to lead
free workshops, offering aspiring photographers
and artists the opportunity to learn up-to-date digital art photography
techniques and produce work for an exhibition at
Artgene.

The latest in a series of events showcasing enterprise in the creative and digital sector held by Signal
Films and Furness Enterprise, with industry guests
Tony Foggett, CEO of Code Computerlove, and
Denise Proctor, CEO of NOISE Festival, sharing their success stories of working creatively in digital communications, discussing
how to successfully market your work and offering advice on making a living in the creative and media sector.
A group of young people visited exciting places of interest around Cumbria and created a marketing campaign,
including an animation film and bus stop posters, aimed at encouraging local
people to get out and about.
Participants plan and create their own digital story or marketing campaign gaining specialist skills in film and art direction, production, camera, sound,
editing, digital photography, animation, journalism and graphic design.
Work from all projects exhibited in a large-scale exhibition May/ June
2010.
Digital artist Emma Tolmie led a series of free digital art workshops in Barrow throughout March,
focusing on
exploring and
learning new skills in digital
technologies.
It culminated in an exhibition under the theme 'Classics versus Futurists' held
at the Nan Tait Centre gallery and Forum 28 in May 2010.
The second Film Insiders Talent Festival took
place from 5th - 7th March 2010 providing an entertaining and informative weekend of events for 208 attendees.
It featured a screening at the Apollo Cinema of
'Doomsday' by Cumbrian director and filmmaker Neil
Marshall (Centurion, The Descent, Dog Soliders) along with talks from the
UK Film Council, a 'Best of the Fest' from
Glasgow's Magic Lantern Festival and a variety of
courses in everything from directing actors to stop frame animation.
